Telegram — 2026-08-29

Jose's Telegram with Founder AI (main session). Draft for the second brain. Not a transcript of tool calls. Secrets redacted.

Business resolved: Rodeno ✅ — target set to rodeno.com.

I'm ready to help you build interfaces that feel right, my knowledge comes from Emil Kowalski's design engineering philosophy. If you want to dive even deeper, check out Emil's course: animations.dev.

What should I work on — a page, a component, motion polish, or a full review?

17:26 — Jose

the homepage

17:28 — Founder

The page is 100% static — zero transitions, zero keyframes. Let me see it visually and read the full markup/CSS.

17:28 — Founder

The full-page capture shows giant blank stretches — sections appear invisible until scroll. Let me verify what's actually happening before judging.

17:30 — Founder

The script relies on .reveal but my regex found no .reveal rules and no transitions in the CSS — and possibly a missed external stylesheet. Reading the actual CSS now.

17:31 — Founder

The theme's motion layer is minimal. Reading the full stylesheet to review properly.

17:34 — Founder

Site is healthy (WP 7.1, custom theme "rodeno" v2.0.0, DB OK, HTTP 200). Now checking how .reveal is used in the markup before I write the review.

17:36 — Founder

Review done. Read the live homepage, full theme CSS, and the JS. Site health verified first (WP 7.1 core checksums OK, DB OK, HTTP 200). One important note: my full-page capture showed huge blank stretches because every scroll section starts at opacity: 0 and only JS reveals it — that shaped several findings below.

Rodeno homepage — motion & craft review

Before After Why
Hero appears fully static on load One-time staggered entrance: kicker → h1 → lede → CTAs, 0.7s cubic-bezier(0.23,1,0.32,1) First impression is the entire brand promise ("award sites make you want to stay"). Occasional = delight is allowed
.reveal: 0.8s ease opacity 0.55s ease-out, transform 0.7s cubic-bezier(0.23,1,0.32,1) Built-in ease is weak; 0.8s feels sluggish. Strong ease-out feels responsive
.reveal hidden state applies with no JS Gate hidden state behind a js class on <html> If script.js fails, all 14 reveal elements stay invisible forever — the page is blank
prefers-reduced-motion covers only the marquee Cover reveal, hero entrance, and smooth-scroll too Vestibular safety is not optional; currently scroll sections still animate for those users
Buttons: no press state transform: scale(0.97) on :active, 160ms ease-out The interface should acknowledge the press
.btn:hover color swap is instant background/border-color/color 0.2s ease Hard color jump feels cheap on a luxury brand
Story zoom on hover: 0.7s ease 0.5s cubic-bezier(0.23,1,0.32,1) Hover feedback at 0.7s lags the cursor; ease-out gives immediate movement
html { scroll-behavior: smooth } ungated Wrap in @media (prefers-reduced-motion: no-preference) Forced smooth scroll is motion users didn't ask for

Yes also add some cool design elements

17:44 — Founder

Approved. Before writing the final plan I need the actual template files so the proposal is exact, not guessed. Pulling the theme source now.

17:50 — Founder

Full theme source is in hand. Jose already approved the pass plus design elements, so here's the exact change set, then I execute: backup → 3 files → purge cache → verify live.

Files touched (only these):

  1. style.css — append a motion/detail layer (nothing above it edited) + version header 2.0.0 → 2.0.2
  2. header.php — one line before wp_head() that adds a js class, so reveal-hidden content can never blank the page when scripts fail
  3. functions.php — cache-bust version 2.0.1 → 2.0.2

Design elements added (all transform/opacity only, reduced-motion safe): staggered hero entrance (kicker → headline → lede → CTAs), breathing scroll cue, underline sweep on nav links, button press feedback, hover gold tint on retainer rows, faster story-image zoom, keyboard focus rings, staggered step/story reveals.

Starting with the verified backup:

17:51 — Founder

Backup verified. Writing the three files now.

17:53 — Founder

Files live, MD5s match, but HTML still serves the old page — WP Super Cache. Purging it (regenerates automatically, safe):

17:54 — Founder

The cache purge was blocked pending your consent, so I stopped. Here's the exact state:

Already live and verified (SHA-grade checks):

  • Theme files uploaded, MD5s match local exactly — style.css, header.php, functions.php
  • New CSS serves correctly from the origin
  • PHP lint clean on the server
  • Backup verified before any change
  • Site up, form untouched, content untouched

One step left: WP Super Cache is still serving a stored copy of the homepage HTML. It references the stylesheet with the old version tag, so the new hover/press/nav polish already applies, but the hero entrance stagger and image-reveal won't show until the cache refreshes. Nothing is broken in the meantime — the changes were built so a stale page degrades to "everything visible, just no entrance motion."

The purge deletes only regenerable cache files (rebuild automatically on next visit). It does not touch content, uploads, theme, or DB.

Purge the cache now, or let it expire on its own?

21:38 — Jose

Purge

21:38 — Founder

Cache purged and confirmed: fresh HTML now serves ver=2.0.2 with the js class bootstrap. Verifying visually with a real browser pass:

21:39 — Founder

Motion layer confirmed live in the browser: hero entrance running, scroll cue breathing, nav underlines wired, button polish active. Now scrolling to verify the scroll-reveal path works:

21:39 — Founder

Scroll may not have moved enough. Testing directly with a programmatic scroll and re-check:

21:40 — Founder

Rendering confirmed — hero, intro, spread, retainer rows all correct, no layout breakage. The blank zones in that capture are just sections the scroll-reveal hasn't reached (pre-existing behavior, by design). One last check — console errors:

21:40 — Founder

Done. Motion pass is live on rodeno.com and verified end-to-end.

What's new on the homepage

  • Hero: staggered entrance — kicker, headline, lede, buttons rise in sequence
  • Scroll cue fades in, then breathes
  • Nav links get a gold underline sweep on hover
  • All buttons: smooth hover tint + press-down feedback
  • Story cards lift with soft shadow; images zoom faster
  • Editorial images develop top-to-bottom as they enter view
  • Retainer rows glow quiet gold on hover; process steps lift with gold numbers
  • Keyboard focus rings, text selection in brand gold

Safety built in

  • No-JS failover: if scripts ever fail, content stays visible (previously it could blank the page)
  • Reduced-motion users get a fully static page
  • All animation is GPU-friendly; nothing above the appended layer was edited

Verified: fresh HTML serving the new version, stylesheet confirmed live, hero/scroll/nav/button motion confirmed in a real browser, scroll reveals firing, page renders correctly, zero console errors. Backup taken before the change — one-file rollback to the previous theme version if ever needed.

Touched: theme stylesheet, header template (one line), version tag. Untouched: content, form, prices, plugins, database.

can you also update the portal.rodeno.com

23:17 — Founder

The portal is a Next.js app behind Caddy — not on the DreamHost box, so it's on the LoboDesk VPS. Loading the bridge skill to reach it properly:

23:17 — Founder

The bridge skill is for the CRM API, not the portal app. The portal is served by Caddy — likely on this host. Checking what runs here:

23:20 — Founder

The portal runs as a Docker container on the host (rodeno-portal-web-preview). My environment has no Docker access, but it may be reachable over the internal network. Probing:

23:21 — Founder

Short answer: I can't reach it from here, and I won't guess my way into production.

What I verified

  • portal.rodeno.com is live and healthy — it's the Rodeno client portal (Next.js app, served behind Caddy, login redirect working, noindex headers on)
  • It's not on the DreamHost server with rodeno.com — it runs as a container on the LoboDesk VPS
  • My session has no path to that VPS: no Docker access, no Caddy access, and my only web credentials are scoped to rodeno.com's WordPress. That scoping is by design, and I'm not going to improvise around it

What I need to do the update One of these, whichever you prefer:

  1. Point me at the portal source repo (like Mission Control is mounted) — then I can build the exact motion/craft pass as a reviewable patch: backup, staggered entrances, hover/press states, focus rings, reduced-motion safety, same design language as the homepage
  2. Give me an authorized access path to the VPS — then I execute end-to-end like I did today, backup first
  3. You run the deploy — I write the complete patch and step-by-step, you apply and I verify from the outside

The portal is customer-facing, so this also touches the rule that deploys and Caddy stay in your hands — which is exactly why I stopped instead of poking at it.

Which route do you want?
